Crowd funding – Changing the game

There is no doubting that crowd funding has changed the product development game! Using websites like Kickstarter(US) and Pozible(AU) we have seen simple ideas raise a hell of a lot of cash to get them from an idea into a mass produced product. Not being one to sit by the side lines and watch, we decided to launch one of our own ideas on Kickstarter to see what would happen. 30 days in we raised just under $30,000 USD which is well above our goal of $15,000. 3D printing with Sand via the Sun?

Is exactly what Markus Kayser has done. Using a large Fresnel lens and a simple 3 Axis gantry design, he has harnessed the power of the sun to print (or melt to be more exact) sand into 3D glass objects based off a 3D CAD model. Very inspiring work!

Ed has done it again… Industrial Design Graduate of 2010!

Ed Linacre, our resident rock star designer, has just been awarded the Industrial Design Graduate of the Year award for 2010! Ed defeated some tough competition but came through with the goods with his Bolo table ware project. The bolo tableware helps promote interaction around the dinner table which in today’s high tech on-line world is something we truly need to get back in touch with! A prototype of the Bolo bowl which we assisted Ed in the creation of, was exhibited at the One-One exhibition and recieved rave reviews. If any prospective homewares manufactures are interested in production rights to the design get in touch with ed – ed@cp-design.com.au
